5th November 1999 Letters

Dear Sirs,

What on earth is going on at the Tunaville Gazette? I came downstairs last Friday expecting to find my copy of the Gazette in its usual position on the hall carpet...but, alas, no Gazette. So I called into Bindi's Corner Shop expecting Mrs. Gupta to indulge in lots of head-nodding while offering some lame excuse like the paperboy had been spending too much time up at the Manor House or something, but she tells me she hasn't received her delivery of your esteemed organ as yet. Can someone at the Gazette tell us what's going on?

Yours in anticipation,

Col. Buffy Genk

Dear Sir,

After just having returned from a whirlwind shopping trip from the night markets of Calcutta - I wish to invite my fellow Tunaville residents to Bindi's Corner shop to have a look at my new stock of exotic spices or as we Indians say - massala! It is really a case of providing Tunaville residents with the combination of authentic taste and Bindi's high regard for culinary international quality.

Tunaville food lovers will be delighted with the selection of raw nuts, powders of poppy seeds, 'mix and pat Chapatti flour', fenugreek, asafoetida, mouth watering Biriyani massala paste and other spices - why not choose from the 'pic & mix spices' counter. As you English are fond of describing things Indian, I think it is bound to put that red dot on your forehead and the wind up your sails.

Pronam

Ms Bindia Gupta

P.S. That kind man from Horsley Hi-Fi had expressed a desire to learn more about India and especially Indian women because the colourful saris and big brown eyes fascinate him. Therefore, as requested, for that dear Mr Horsley and fellow Tunaville residents, I have brought back several educational videos such as Madame Curry, Tasty Bites of India, Spice N'flavour, and what I believe to be a guided tour of India - Emmanuel visits India. I must admit I have not watched the videos but I hope my residents have hours of fun. I am always happy to oblige.
