18th February 2000 Letters

Dear Sir,

Advertised in last week's Gazette were second-hand clothes available from the 'Manor House'. On enquiry, I was able to purchase, at a very reasonable price a pair of cavalry twill slacks and a sports jacket (complete with leather patches on the arms).

It is only now that I begin to realise that with clothing you "pay for what you get". Both these articles are of 'top-notch' quality, tailored originally in Saville Row and are as good now as the day they were initially made.

I can assure others that no longer will I be buying clothing from Marks and Spencers, (though I still do find their 'smart-casual' range very appealing). The quality compared to my recent purchases bears no comparison and I now realise, that despite my own belief that I looked the business in my pin-striped M&S number, others who knew better were merely humouring me at the time.

I would therefore like to advise others to avail themselves of the opportunity of buying some good quality clothing at a very reasonable price.

Best regards,

Mr. David Dodd
3 Acre Barn
Tunaville.

P.S. I would also like to thank Mr. Donaldson for his time in advising me regarding future purchases and I have found his personal tailor to be more than helpful.

Dear Sir,

According to last week's letter column it seems that some in our community find it appealing that people (I would prefer to use the term idiots), drive fast sports motor cars at break-neck speeds down both narrow and windy roads. To use an age old cliché "it isn't big and it isn't clever". Before long there will be a serious accident, mark my words.

A far more practical motor vehicle for this vicinity would seem to be a decent 4 wheel drive, which would give off road access plus plenty of space for shopping and children when collecting from school. It is possible to find such a car that is also rather quick on acceleration, a Suzuki Vitara is one that springs to mind for instance.

I trust that other like minded individuals in our community will be quick to denounce the current spate of 'boy-racing that we currently experience and that the culprit will soon be brought to task by the local constabulary.

Best regards,

Neil Donaldson,
The 'Manor House'.

Dear Sir,

How come a thriving community such as ours fails to accommodate at least one pharmacy in our busy high street. Surely such a service would be invaluable to the residents of Tunaville particularly in the current season which traditionally seems to bring on the common cold and other ailments which require regular medical attention.

I particularly ask, because over recent weeks I have noticed a marked increase in the occasions I have had to restock a number of vending machines in the conveniences located on my premises.

My frequent trips to the BigTown cash and carry are starting to raise the odd eyebrow and I would welcome the opportunity to pass on the responsibility of supplying this particular product to someone else.

Yours protectively,

Paul Mullin,
Landlord

Dear Sir,

I must write in reply to a letter appearing in last week's Gazette, describing the music played on my late night radio show as "drivel". I feel this is most unfair and would wish to remind your letter writer, (who I notice is not brave enough to quote his own name, so I presume is perhaps a 'jock' on a rival station broadcasting only on the AM wave-band and so hence not in stereo),that the listening figures for 'Mumbling Around Midnight' are the highest in the region.

It should be remembered that a show going out through the night has to appeal to those that listen and the truckers that write in seem more than appreciative of anything played by the likes of Billy Jo Spears, Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton.I do however try to introduce the odd new act and last week for example played 'Crocodile rock' by Elton John, which jumped immediately to number one on the current 'hit list'.

So please, less of the criticism and if anyone should care to pass on any constructive comments, please feel free to call in. Remember keep your dial tuned to TUNAVILLE FM - EASY LISTENING THROUGH THE NIGHT.

Best regards,

'Donny' Donaldson

Ed,

Through the pages of your erstwhile organ I would like to ask if anyone has heard from our community 'pen-pal' Joe Bob Baker of late ?

His regular letters used to bring a broad smile to my face and I am a little concerned as to the well being of him and his delightful family given the recent television coverage of the outbreak of pestilence in Texas (which for the readers who are not aware is the village that Joe Bob lives in, in America).

Here's hoping that he and his delightful family are OK and we will hear from them very soon.

Yours enquiringly,

W Wheaton,
Barrister at Law

Dear Sir,

May I be the first to say how great the Rovers look in their new kit. Terrific. Indeed it is refreshing, in the current commercially driven enviroment in which we live, to report that the replica shirts, on sale from the clubhouse, are offered at a very reasonable price and are of a very fine quality.

Both my wife and I have bought one each and we simply love them. (A suggestion for other girls out there, is that of buying one to wear as a nightie in bed when there is a nip in the air, as at the present time.)

Well done the Rovers and here's hoping that I'll be wearing my new shirt down Wembley way, come the end of the season.

Yours,

Mr. Donaldson,
'The Manor House'
